How To Apply for a Job With The Government

While many jobs are advertised online, others may be obtained by personal contacts, especially when working for local or state government. The first step is to get in touch with people who work at the institutions where you’d like to work and find out how they’re hired.


Once you have that information, apply just as you would if applying through an external agency: Write a resume and cover letter focused on how your experience makes you a great fit for that job, submit it and wait.


Since most government agencies hire internally, generally there are no other application requirements aside from submitting your resume/cover letter and possibly writing an essay about why you want to work there.


If you are selected for an interview, dress professionally and arrive early. Be prepared to answer questions about yourself and your career goals. In addition, make sure to research any organization before attending an interview—you don’t want to look unprepared!


Will My Degree Be Accepted?

It’s important to note that not all degrees are equal when it comes to applying for government jobs. The province or field of study you studied may be specific to certain countries or industries and may need some additional studying before you can be hired.


If you’re planning on applying as a civil engineer, your degree needs to be from an institution based in Europe, Africa, Asia or South America. And if you graduated with a public administration degree—for example—you must have studied at an accredited program located outside of Pakistan. 


Furthermore, your study time abroad doesn’t count unless it was a joint venture with a Pakistani university. While there are other restrictions as well, do yourself a favor and check out the official job descriptions carefully before applying. It might just save you from disappointment later down the line.


It's best to double-check: Many people apply for government jobs without first checking if their educational background is actually accepted by the relevant department.


Although these checks aren't required by every department, it's still worth making sure before spending money on application fees and preparing your resume because there's no point spending hundreds of dollars only to find out later that you don't qualify.


How Can I Improve My Chances?

There are many different types of jobs available with government agencies, but public service is primarily known for its stable pay and benefits. According to PayScale’s 2014 survey of job satisfaction across industries, public servants report being very satisfied with their work experiences overall.


Additionally, one-third of employees surveyed said they have no desire to leave their current positions—though it does help if you’re specifically working toward a long-term career goal. Fortunately, there are a number of resources at your disposal that can help you get there .

The Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP) also provides an online database where you can search by position title or location to find out what positions are currently open within each department. And once you know which jobs interest you most, use it as a jumping off point to begin researching further.


For example, if I wanted to apply for an opening with Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance (MoF), I could start by reading through descriptions on CSP’s website and then do additional research on MoF itself before applying directly through CSP.


What If I Don’t Have Any Qualifications?

Many of us have daydreamed about working at a government job, and many of us haven’t figured out how we can make that dream a reality. The good news is that with persistence and dedication, it is possible to get a government job with little or no qualifications. Regardless of your experience level, if you really want to work for government jobs in Pakistan then there are steps you need to take! Keep reading for more information. How Do I Apply?: There are multiple ways to apply for government jobs in Pakistan.


The first way is by going through recruitment drives which happen frequently across major cities in Pakistan (and online). These drives consist of both written tests and interviews which typically last around two hours each. At these drives, recruiters will select candidates based on their scores from written tests as well as personal interviews with recruiters themselves.


As always, try your best but don't stress too much: remember that regardless of whether you're hired immediately or not, there's always another drive coming up soon so just keep trying!


What If I Don’t Meet The Minimum Requirements?

Don’t panic! Not meeting every single requirement doesn’t mean your application is doomed. There are always ways around being short on experience or lacking a diploma, you just have to be creative and figure out what it is that can make up for those shortfalls.


Some tips include volunteering with an organization where you can pick up useful skills or gaining work experience outside of Pakistan. Regardless of how good you may be at your job, if an employer needs proof that you’re qualified and capable, then they will find a way to ask for it from applicants who lack it.


Keep pushing forward with your application despite being rejected multiple times, because each rejection means one step closer to acceptance! As long as you keep trying, eventually there will be a position that fits all of your qualifications.


Should I Hire A Recruiter?

Every year, there are tens of thousands of government jobs that open up nationwide. If you're looking for a stable career with great pay and benefits, you might want to consider applying for one. However, some positions may be available to candidates who don't have formal education credentials but have other relevant experience instead. For example, if you work as an assistant manager at a hotel or restaurant and have exceptional customer service skills, you could apply for an entry-level position in tourism services management at your local district level without having completed any formal training programs or college degrees. Do I Need to Visit In Person?

It’s not necessary to make a personal appearance in order to apply for government jobs. It’s possible (and recommended) that you visit your local employment office, but you can also submit applications online.
